YEAR 9 CAMP - 2021

TEAMWORK & LEADERSHIP

During year 9 camp to Kalbarri, we endured numerous teamwork and leadership activities, to challenge the year 9 cohort in the Australian bush. We were tasked activities such as Hiking, cooking, putting up tents, and team building activities.

When we were doing our daily activities in our camp groups, our group was divided to groups of leaders, foodies, water, and camp crafts. These groups were set to do different jobs for the team, to make expedition run.

One example of my leadership was when we got to camp during the first night, we had to get our camp ready for the night before dark, so we could cook dinner and go to bed, ready for the busy day ahead of us. On the first day, I was assigned as a foodie. On the night I was the fastest at getting my tent ready for the night, so I went to see what I could do to help. Steph, our camp leader, asked me to get the water stations ready for the team as I had free time. Usually this would be the hygiene and water teams’ job, but I showed leadership, and fixed the water station for my team.

After fixing the water station, I went to the cooking area, to prepare the ingredients and cooking utensils for the whole camp group and made it ready for the group to cook their dinner. When we were cooking dinner, I took lead as the people in my cooking group were tired, and I conducted and lead the cooking process.

Another example of my leadership on camp, was when I guided the team on hike, out of the 4 ways gorge after the night camping there. I had to navigate the rocky paths out of the gorge with the help of my team, who helped me with directions, and the map.

In camp, I always made sure to lead, and support my teammates, and make sure that their well-being was always supported.
