KEYS 4 LIFE

HEALTH ED

What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

I learnt the amount of lives that are cost from speeding, and how many injuries come from speed-related crashes and incidents. In my research, I also learnt the number of teenagers which are included in these statistics. This made me verry worried about how we are educating teenagers who are driving, and how we can keep new drivers like myself, and my classmates safe. Looking at the statistics that are featured on my video, really educated me, in how dangerous speeding can be, especially when you are on highways and speedways, and you have to emergency brake, which can take up to 45m when travelling at 110km/h. That makes it important to keep within the speed guidelines, especially with teenagers to keep them safe.

What one piece of advice would you pass on to young drivers above all else? Why?

I would say, when you are driving, be mindful of your surroundings, and the road rules in the area you are driving. This will help you keep by the rules and speed limits in the area, to help keep you from speeding. You should also be checking your speed from time to time, to make sure you are going at the right speed. Along with this, you should think about the passengers in your car, and how it is your responsibility to keep them safe while you are in the moving car. If you are in a speeding accident

Write down a pledge that you will commit to when you start driving. Why did you pick these things to commit to? How will you stick to these commitments?

After learning the facts about what happens to young people driving when they are not paying attention, I know what I need to do to stay safe while driving. I will stay safe by always making sure I’m aware of my surroundings, by knowing the rules of the different roads I drive on, before getting on them, not driving under the influence, and in my opinion, most of all; making sure I am not speeding, to ensure safety of myself, my passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians, as it is my responsibility when I am in front of the wheel. I will stick to this by making sure I remember the facts that I have learnt, so I will never let myself, and the people around me, become statistics.
